# Your striking distance keywords, _on page one_.

Google already shows your pages for searches you never wrote for. Your [SEO agent](/agents/seo) works them into your pages, so they climb to page one.

---

## What are striking distance keywords?

Striking distance keywords are searches your page already shows up for, usually just below the top ten results. Yet the page never uses those words in its title, headings or copy. Google sees a match but does not fully trust it. Use the words, and the page often [moves onto page one](/features/seo-geo), where most of the organic traffic goes.

/jackets/waxed

| Search | Views | Position |
| --- | --- | --- |
| waxed jacket | 5,100 | 4.1 |
| waxed jackets for menNot on the page | 2,400 | 11.8 |
| waterproof waxed coatNot on the page | 1,300 | 14.2 |

## Why page two is worth fixing.

Page two of Google gets almost no clicks, and every spot gained on page one brings more. A page in striking distance is the cheapest place to win that traffic. It is already written and already indexed, and Google already links it to the search. It only needs the right words.

- 0.63%

of searchers click on a result from the second page of Google.

- 27.6%

of clicks go to the first result.

- +32.3%

more clicks on average, each time a page moves up one position.

## How to spot a striking distance keyword.

Four signs, all visible in Google Search Console. The SEO agent checks them for every page, every week.

- ### An average position from 8 to 20

The page sits at the bottom of page one or on page two. It is close enough to climb, but too low to get clicks.

- ### Plenty of impressions, few clicks

Google shows the page often, but people scroll past it. A low click-through rate is the clearest sign of a near miss.

- ### Words missing from the page

The search is not in the title, the H1 or the first paragraphs. Google has to guess the match instead of reading it.

- ### A clear match with the page

The search fits what the page is about and what the reader wants. If it does not, the search needs a new page, not an edit.

---

## How it works.

Every week, four steps. You only do the last one.

1. ### Reads Search Console

The SEO agent reads the search terms each page shows up for, how often, and its average position. Connect Semrush or Ahrefs and it also weighs search volume and keyword difficulty.

2. ### Spots the near misses

It keeps the searches a page almost wins but never mentions, and ranks them by the clicks they could bring.

3. ### Works them into the page

It rewrites the title, the description, a heading and a few sentences. It keeps your brand voice and the search intent. No keyword stuffing.

4. ### You review, or it publishes

The changes wait in a preview with a short report: publish them, edit them, or turn them down. Or switch the routine to automatic and the SEO agent publishes them itself. Every version is kept.

## Before and after.

One page, one run. An example of what the SEO agent changes, with the words it added highlighted.

/jackets/waxed

- **Title**: Before:Waxed jackets | Acme
- After:Waxed jackets for men | Acme
- **Description**: Before:Waxed cotton jackets, made to last.
- After:Waxed cotton jackets, waterproof and made to last.
- **Heading**: Before:Built for the outdoors
- After:A waterproof waxed coat built for the outdoors

---

## What you get.

- ### Your quick wins, listed

For every page, the searches it almost ranks for, sorted by the clicks they could bring.

- ### Edits ready to publish

Titles, descriptions and copy already rewritten, waiting in a preview, or published on their own if you switch the routine to automatic.

- ### Progress, week after week

Each run reads Search Console again, so you see which pages climbed and which need another pass.

## Works with your tools.

Search Console is all it needs to start. Connect Semrush or Ahrefs to add search volume and difficulty.

## Questions about keyword optimization.

Straight answers.

### What are low hanging fruit keywords?

The same idea as striking distance keywords: searches your site already ranks for, just below the top results. Many are long tail keywords: longer, more specific searches with less competition. They are the cheapest traffic you can win, because the page already exists and Google already links it to the search.

### How do I find my Google Search Console keywords?

Open Google Search Console, go to the Performance report, pick a page, and sort its queries by impressions. Look for an average position between 8 and 20, on searches the page never mentions. The SEO agent does this step by step for every page, every week, so you don’t have to.

### What is a good average position in Search Console?

Positions 1 to 3 get most of the clicks. From 4 to 10, the page is on page one but easy to miss. From 8 to 20 is striking distance, where a small edit can bring the biggest gain. Beyond 20, the page usually needs more than a few new words.

### Do I need Semrush or Ahrefs?

No. Search Console is enough to start. If you already use Semrush or Ahrefs, connect them and the SEO agent also weighs search volume and keyword difficulty to pick your quick wins first.

### Will it stuff keywords into my pages?

No. It adds a search only where it reads naturally, usually in the title, one heading and a sentence or two. Keep approval on and you see every change in a preview before it goes live.

### How is this different from keyword research?

Keyword optimization improves the pages you already have, with searches they already show up for. [Keyword research](/agents/keyword-research) finds new target keywords, often with a high search volume, to build new pages around.

### Should I update an old page or write a new one?

Update the page when the search matches what it already covers: it keeps its age, its links and its history with Google. Write a new page when the search asks for something the page does not cover. Keyword optimization handles the first case, [keyword research](/agents/keyword-research) and [SEO content writing](/agents/seo-content-writing) the second.

### How long before a page moves up?

Google usually takes a few weeks to read the page again and adjust its position. The SEO agent checks Search Console on every run, so you see the movement as it happens.

### Which plan includes it?

Every plan, Free included: the SEO and GEO agents run on all plans. Paid plans add more AI credits and agent-hours. See the pricing page for the details.
